WHAT will I get from working with Highbank Primary and Nursery School?

  • EARN: £8 per hour, 37.5 hours per week
  • EXPERIENCE- your hours: Monday to Friday 00am – 4.00pm, term time only
  • QUALIFICATION: Teaching Assistant Level 3 takes approximately 16 months.

WHAT will my DAY look like?

You will primarily be supporting the children in the SEND hub, working 1-2-1 and interacting with non-verbal children with autism spectrum disorder.  You will also provide support to pupils in class and small groups who may need additional support beyond the initial input. The role may also involve providing ‘soft starts’ to some pupils who need support settling in first thing in the morning as well as being a proactive figure on the playground at playtimes, involving pupils in games and supporting positive peer interactions. Your typical day will look like:

  • 08:00 Start Time
  • 08:40 Pupils arrive – greet at the door or 1:1 soft starts.
  • 09:00-15.15 1:1 support, based in the SEND Hub working on an alternative curriculum, based on the pupils needs and EHCP targets *
  • 10:15 Break
  • 12:00 Lunch (30 mins lunch, 30 mins supporting pupils)
  • 15:15 End of school day for pupils
  • Minimum of 6 hours per week spent on apprenticeship work and training.

* (Additional duties will include supporting the class teachers in other classes)

HOW does the Apprenticeship work?

Working towards your Teaching Assistant Level 3 Qualification, you’ll attend monthly 1-2-1 meetings (online via teams every month – NO classroom OR college!) with your tutor and learn about modules including review & delivery, communication, pastoral, relationships & role modelling, learning & support, and more!  You will be given a minimum of 3 hours per week to complete any apprenticeship work (assignments, research, and projects) and will receive at least another 3 hours of training from your employer. All apprenticeship work and training is completed in the workplace, during working hours.

WHAT skills/qualifications do I NEED?

  • Minimum GRADE 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths & English
  • UK Residency – must have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
  • Communication & team working.
  • Organisation & initiative.
  • Creativity, non-judgemental & patience.

What happens next?

If your application is successful, you will receive a call from our dedicated Recruitment Consultant who will discuss the qualification, location and course length in more detail. Following this call, you will be asked to write a supporting statement and complete an English and Maths assessment.
