Delivered over 23 months, this apprenticeship prepares learners to take an operational lead in early years environments, guiding and supporting other practitioners while ensuring high-quality provision. Apprentices will develop expertise in leading daily routines, promoting best practices in observation, assessment, and planning, and ensuring full compliance with safeguarding legislation and local policies.

WHAT will I get from working with Washway Road Day Nursery?

  • EARN: £7.55 per hour, 37.5 hours per week
  • EXPERIENCE- your hours: Monday to Friday shifts between 7.30am and 6pm.
  • QUALIFICATION: Early Years Educator Level 3 takes approximately 18 months.

WHAT will my DAY look like?

You will be joining an extremely supportive and encouraging team of highly qualified practitioners. They strive to support all staff development to enable them to progress and reach their full potential. You will deliver a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years and ensure that the preschool nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day care and learning of children in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Assisting with planning and delivering fun, age-appropriate activities.
  • Helping to create a safe, clean, and engaging learning environment.
  • Observing children’s development and contributing to learning records.
  • Supporting children with personal care routines (including feeding and toileting where required).
  • Building positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Following safeguarding, health & safety, and nursery policies at all times.
  • Minimum of 6 hours per week spent on apprenticeship work and training.

HOW does the Apprenticeship work?

Working towards your Early Years Educator Level 3 Qualification, you’ll attend monthly 1-2-1 meetings (online via teams every month – NO classroom OR college!) with your tutor and learn about modules including risk management, key person & attachment, learning & development, and more!  You will be given a minimum of 3 hours per week to complete any apprenticeship work (assignments, research, and projects) and will receive at least another 3 hours of training from your employer. All apprenticeship work and training is completed in the workplace, during working hours.

WHAT skills/qualifications do I NEED?

  • Minimum GRADE 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths & English
  • UK Residency – must have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
  • Communication, team working & customer care
  • Logical, creative & organised
  • Initiative, problem solving, non-judgemental & patient

WHO are St Joseph’s School & Nursery?

St Joseph’s offers a Nursery education full of wonder and excitement and with so much to see and do, the children soon develop a love of learning about the world around them. In addition to all the activities and toys available in the rooms, the children visit the school library, take part in PE, have French lessons, cook, go on walks to see some of the City’s local attractions, they even manage to squeeze in some IT! Dance lessons are also available as part of the curriculum through ‘Rattle and Roll’, a local provider and the children are regularly integrated into school life through our weekly achievement assemblies.

The Nursery is attached to the main school and welcomes all children from 1 to 5 years old. It is open 51 weeks of the year from 8am to 6pm (Monday to Friday) and separated into 3 distinctive rooms - Rainbow Room, Sunflower Room and Pre-Prep.

WHAT will my DAY look like?

St Joseph’s are a hidden gem in the busy city centre and want you to join their team to give young children the best start in their early lives. You will gain valuable experience in this position which could set you up for a career in childcare! Your daily tasks will include:

  • Contributing to a programme of activities that meet the individual needs and interests of the children.
  • Recording children’s learning and development journeys and to then communicate these with parents, carers, and other key adults.
  • Being actively engaged in great team working.
  • Liaising with and supporting parents, carers, and other family members.
  • Participating in the high-quality care and supervision of all children.
  • Attending activities that are out of working hours (e.g. staff meetings, training, and events etc.)

HOW does the Apprenticeship Work?

All apprenticeship work and training is completed in the workplace, during working hours.

WHAT skills/qualifications do I NEED?

  • Minimum GRADE 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths & English

  • Communication & team working.
  • Attention to detail, organisation, initiative & problem solving.

WHAT will my DAY look like?
