The start of a new year is always a great time to create a better version of yourself. January is a strong month, so let’s make it count. In this blog, you will read a few tips and tricks on how to create a better you ready to face the new year of 2024. On our site, we have many other blogs giving you tips and tricks to help you with any barriers you are facing so go take a look! But let’s start with figuring out your strengths and weaknesses.

Start Playing To Your Strengths

Recognising your strengths is a great thing to do. It will allow you to play towards them giving you an extra push in everything you do. When you start doing these things more, you’ll enjoy them as your talent will be recognised by the people around you! For example, let’s say your strength is being very creative and artsy. So how would you play to that? Well, let’s have a look at the personal life side first. You could start going to art groups, you could start creating more pieces of work, post them on social media, create a big following and get recognised by big names! You could also create many new friends with the same interests as you which will then open the gates to a huge variety of paths you could follow.

For the career side of things, you can search for jobs that involve creativity. For example, you could take a course in college or uni, you could find a job such as a Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Photographer, Interior Designer, Digital Marketer and so many more.

Do The Things That Make You Happy

Doing things that make you happy links in with playing to your strengths. If what makes you happy is riding a bike then keep riding that bike! Take that positive activity and create it into a strength. Even if you’re bad at riding a bike but love doing it, keep going as you’re only going to get better at it. You know what they say, practice makes perfect. All the little things that make you happy are so important. Make sure you give yourself time for them to create that better version of yourself. Keep the happy energy high!

Take Good Care Of Yourself

Sleep is a very important factor in your emotional and physical well-being. Getting little or no sleep affects the way you move, think and feel which can lead to an increase in stress, anxiety and feeling lethargic. We recommend you get at least 8 hours of sleep per night, maybe wind down with a book instead of your phone or TV. After getting back into the routine of more quality sleep, you’ll start feeling so much better in the mornings and throughout the day.

The same is true with your nutrition intake. A poor diet can make you feel tired, grumpy and like your brain isn’t turning properly. Having a good balance between healthy and unhealthy foods is important. Make sure you fuel your body with three good meals throughout the day and snacks in between. But also remember to stay hydrated!

Keeping connected with friends and family is such a good way to create a better self. Being around friends will get you out of the house, gain new experiences in life and generally make you happier! And it’s the same with family. Take that time just to talk and connect and don’t be closed off to making new friends whether that’s through other friends, people with the same hobbies or just someone you have automatically clicked with. If you are located around Nottingham and want to get out there and make new friends or start socialising more, we recommend you take a look at The Nottingham SocialThey host social events for you to meet new people, experience new things and boost your confidence around new people. You can also search for different locations!

Keeping A Happy Mind

All of the above is incredibly important to keeping a happy and healthy mind which is then the key to creating a better you. We all know that keeping that mind happy all the time won’t happen as everyone has their ups and downs but don’t let that stop you from keeping your mind healthy. Mental health is critical. That’s why we offer mental health free online courses such as The Awareness of Men’s Mental Health, Children and Young People’s Mental Health, Understanding Mental Health, Understanding Mental Health in Early Years and Mental Health First Aid. These courses are a great way to learn about the range of different mental health struggles and barriers but also how to overcome them and help yourself and others.

If you’re stuck on which course to go for, we recommend our Level 2 Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace course which is completely free and can be done in the comfort of your own home. Whilst completing the course, you will explore mental health, learn how to support individuals struggling with their mental health and understand a mentally healthy environment for yourself and others. This course is a great first course which you can then use in your personal and work life.

We also have courses in social care, health care, business skills and IT skills which are all so useful for creating a better you. Learning new bits of knowledge, skills and behaviours is a great way to give a helping hand to yourself and others too whether it’s family, friends or colleagues. Find out more of our courses here but also take a look at our socials for updates on new courses, the benefits and more!
