**New Apprenticeship Standards include an independent End Point Assessment (EPA) that all apprentices must pass to complete their apprenticeship and confirm competence in their role. The EPA is an assessment of all the knowledge, skills and behaviours that have been learnt throughout the apprenticeship. The employer agrees with the tutor when the apprentice has completed all the required elements of the Standard (the Gateway criteria) and then the EPA is completed. The EPA organisation is independent and the apprenticeship certificate will only be awarded after the EPA is passed.
