Case Study: From learner to leader with CT Skills
In September 2018, Chris Dixon was working as a Manager with a leading supermarket, where he had been employed for over 18 years. The role was extremely busy and Chris would often struggle to find the time to relax as he would often be on call in case there was an emergency in any of the stores.
The effects of the long working hours began to take its toll on Chris and he eventually made the tough decision to leave his role so he could begin to focus on his health and spend much needed time with family and friends.
During his time unemployed, Chris realised he wanted a career change and attended a local jobs fair where he first learned about CT Skills and the different courses they have available. To help him with his future prospects, Chris signed up to a Business Administration course with CT Skills Derby and began the following week.
“I found the course really good and everyone in my class was very nice which made it easy for me to settle in with the learners and all of the staff here. After a few days, I felt very confident in class and this began to show as my tutor Amy spoke to me and told me I would also make a great tutor. It was something I had always considered but never really had the opportunity to explore any further.”
Soon after Chris began looking at his options of being a tutor and found a vacancy as a Business Skills Tutor with the team at CT Skills Derby.
“I discussed the role with Amy and she was thrilled that I had taken her advice and was considering a career as a tutor especially with CT Skills because I had settled in here so well. She immediately put me forward for the role and it was here I was offered an interview with both Amy and Kerina the Centre Manager.”
The interview went extremely well and both Kerina and Amy were impressed with Chris’ interview skills and techniques. Within days after attending the interview, Chris was offered the role as Business Skills Tutor with CT Skills.
“I was so happy to have been offered the role. I have now been with CT Skills for a few weeks and I feel very settled here and part of the CT Skills family!”
Kerina Rujudawa CT Skills Derby Centre Manager commented;
“Chris supported the CT Skills Derby staff with some Universal Credit Training when we had the Derby Job Centre staff come over to the office whilst he was on programme completing his Business Admin course with Amy – he was a whizz on the computers and really professional throughout.
When he completed his course he popped into the office and said he was interested in the role we had available here in Derby, I was delighted. He has fitted into the team so well already and is enjoying his training so far. Welcome to the team Chris!”
