Case Study: Changing the face of construction

News 6

CT Skills were pleased to meet with 18 year old, Lauren Congrave who was ready to start a career in the construction industry but lacked the qualifications required to allow her to work on site.

At the beginning of 2020, Lauren decided to search for an opportunity which would allow her to work in a construction related role. She had previously completed work experience within a warehouse, so she knew she had the basic understanding of working within a fast paced and hands on role.

Lauren said; “After completing the work experience, I knew I wanted to begin working on a construction site but I didn’t have the required qualifications or CSCS card to work on site and I was unsure at how much it would all cost me to get the qualifications.”

Lauren eventually came across a short fully-funded training course for 16-19 year olds with CT Skills, the course offered a Level 1 Construction Qualification with a CSCS card along with employment opportunities and career support.

Lauren explains; “I knew this would be a great opportunity for me as it would help me to secure a role and get in to the industry I had always wanted to work in.”

Across a two week period, Lauren attended the course and learned everything she needed to know to work on site. The course included CV techniques, Health & Safety in the work place and general construction requirements.

She continued; “I felt so at ease on the course because it felt like nothing I said was wrong. I learnt so much and made plenty of friends on the course too which made me more confident.”

After completing the course, Lauren sat her test for the CSCS card and successfully passed!

She said; “I am thrilled to have completed the course with CT Skills and I am now looking at the new opportunities available to me. Thank you for providing me with this unique opportunity.”
