Case Study: CT Skills carved my career path

The Goal:

CT Skills were offering a short 12 day Customer Service course at their centre in Leicester followed by a guaranteed interview with the Marriott Hotel.  CT Skills worked closely with Marriott to provide local residents with the skills and confidence required to work in a variety of roles available at the hotel as well as covering additional topics including C.V and interview techniques.

The Challenge:  

Like many 16-24 year olds, 23 year old Brandon Graham had completed numerous qualifications but couldn’t find the right industry he wanted to work in. Due to a lack of confidence, he struggled to secure an interview which often affected his confidence even more.  As he wasn’t in employment, Brandon would regularly attend local jobs fairs and engage with the recruiters at his job centre. It was during one of these visits that Brandon spoke with CT Skills Engagement Officer, Holli who discussed the opportunities available to him at CT Skills Leicester.

Brandon said;

“I would never receive feedback from interviews and I was really at a low point. After being informed about a course with CT Skills alongside an interview with the Marriott hotel, I knew I had to take the opportunity by the hands and just 5 days later I began the course.”

From the moment he began the course, CT Skills Tutor, Dale, worked closely with Brandon to grow his skills and confidence particularly with interview preparation which he felt most nervous about.

Brandon continued;

“When I met Dale, I was going through a tough time and Dale sat down with me and improved both my C.V and mentality. If it wasn’t for Dale I wouldn’t have got through the course and I am very grateful to him for that.”

As well as improving his C.V, Dale worked closely with Brandon to strengthen his Customer Service skills ahead of his interview with the Marriott.

The Result:

Shortly after completing the course, Brandon attended the interview for a Room Attendant vacancy with the Marriott hotel in Leicester.

Marriott HR Manager, Mariana interviewed Brandon and told us;

“Brandon was extremely nervous when he came to the interview, but following his course with CT Skills we could see his potential and thought he would suit a much broader role. This is when we decided to offer him a Housekeeping position where he will be trained in more areas than just room attending.”

Brandon was delighted to have received the offer from the Marriott and has since begun his new role with the hotel.

He concluded;

“I really like my new job and I would love to continue a career here because everyone is so nice. I would definitely recommend CT Skills, because if it wasn’t for my tutor Dale I would still be feeling down and unemployed.”

Following the course, CT Skills Leicester were pleased to fill over five vacancies across the Marriott hotel and are continuing to fulfil their recruitment needs with pre-employment training.
