For many years, Sian Daly, 28, worked as a Kitchen Assistant in a local primary school which allowed her to work term-time hours to suit around her three young children.
Even though she enjoyed her job, she had longed for a career as a Health Care Assistant, but due to her lack of qualifications she had never tried to pursue her dream as she felt she wouldn’t be offered any opportunities.
“My ambition had always been to work for the NHS, but I didn’t know where to start. I eventually went to my local Job Centre for advice and explained my aspirations to the Careers Advisor there and and they referred me to CT Skills so I could complete my Level 2 Maths and English qualifications.”
Eager to achieve her dream, Sian enrolled on to the Functional Skills course and immediately liked the idea of completing the course within weeks and getting one step closer to her dream career.
“I hadn’t been in education for a while, so when I first started the course I found it extremely difficult but I was reassured and supported throughout by my Maths and English tutors, Richard and Amy. Even when I wanted to quit, they were lovely and helpful and encouraged me not too.”
During her time with CT Skills Derby, Sian’s confidence began to grow and within weeks she progressed from Entry Level 3 to Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade C/4).
“I learnt so much over my time with CT Skills and my confidence improved massively, so much so feel like I can achieve my goals and go for all of the things I want in life.”
Sian passed both of her exams at CT Skills and with her new confidence she applied for a Health Care Assistant role with the Royal Derby Hospital.
“With my new qualifications behind me, I secured the role working on the dementia ward and I now have my dream job within the NHS. I would recommend CT Skills to everyone… it has been amazing!”
