Last year, Keavey-Leigh Greasby had always dreamed about pursuing a career in childcare but felt that she didn’t have the knowledge or experience to land a job in the sector.
Unsure about what the future would hold, Keavey got in touch with CT Skills and explained her passion to work with children but felt her lack of experience meant she didn’t stand out against other candidates.
It was here that Keavey was first introduced to the Generation Z provision with CT Skills, which would enable her to have the skills required to work within childcare, alongside gaining maths & English qualifications and an industry relevant work placement in a nursery.
Keavey is currently completing a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Childcare with The Learning Tree Nursery, Sutton & Ashfield. We spoke to Keavey to find out how she is getting on in her apprenticeship.
Q&A interview with Keavey-Leigh Greasby
“It has been a great learning experience for me. My tutor is really helpful and she has made me much more confident in my role.”
What made you want to work in Childcare?
As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to work in Childcare and when I was growing up I looked after my younger siblings. When I left school I didn’t know much about apprenticeships, so went to college and studied Health & Social Care, but I didn’t enjoy the classroom environment and wanted to be looking after children.
What did you think to the Generation Z provision at CT Skills?
It was great! I wasn’t in education at the time, so I loved to be back in a learning environment. CT Skills gave me industry relevant work experience in a nursery and that’s what I had been lacking when trying to secure a role in childcare. My tutor, Anthony also made me aware of the Apprenticeship with The Learning Tree and helped me with my application and to prepare for the interview, which was amazing.
You are now completing your Apprenticeship, how are you finding it?
It has been a great learning experience for me and it has helped me to manage my time and understand responsibilities at work. My tutor, Jean is really helpful and she has made me much more confident in my role – especially teaching me how to deal with all ages and speaking to families.
What is a typical day like at The Learning Tree nursery?
Every day is different! But a typical day would include play time with the children which is my favourite. The children are so much fun and it doesn’t feel like work.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to complete my Level 2 Apprenticeship and move on to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. After I have finished my Level 3, I hope to stay on at The Learning Tree and progress to a Senior Nursery Nurse.
Would you recommend an Apprenticeship?
Yes definitely! It has completely changed my future and I am so happy that I am now in my dream job.
