Apprenticeship Success for Summer Job Shop Learner

Featuring interview with Cory Molloy

Learner: Cory Molloy
Initial Programme: ESF Summer Job Shop Programme
Outcome: Business Administration Apprenticeship with Farsight Recruitment

2017 was the year of Generation Z at CT Skills, with more than 100 Information, Advice & Guidance sessions, 6 Job Shop programmes and countless apprenticeship opportunities.

Just one of the young people we supported in securing sustainable employment was 19 year old Cory Molloy of Derby.

It was August 2017 that we met Cory amongst a group of passionate young adults, all of which optimistic that our Summer Job Shop programme offered a route into their dream career.

“I heard about CT Skills and their Summer Job Shop programme for 16-24 year olds. I felt like it was the best way of gaining the skills and qualifications I would need to be successful.

I was right.”

After just 4 short weeks of intensive employability training and expert guidance, Cory graduated the Summer Job Shop programme with a Traineeship placement at Padley Group. We identified that with some further support Cory could secure an English qualification and really embed his new skills while on a relevant work placement, a Traineeship offered the perfect solution to this.
Corey explains “I enjoyed every aspect of the Job Shop programme but I think I mostly benefitted from the mock interview training. It was this that helped me secure my work experience placement and later secure my apprenticeship! Without that guidance I am unsure how successful I would have been at interview.
I have always really struggled with my confidence but the time I have spent at CT Skills helped me to identify my strengths and how I can utilise them within the workplace”

As a local family owned training provider, we are passionate in supporting our community of young people in becoming the next generation of leaders. Our classroom programmes are only the beginning for many of the people we support and will continue to offer guidance for as long as the individual needs. Our Derby Learning Centre staff demonstrated this seamlessly when guiding Cory on his job application journey.

Derby Centre Manager, Kerina Rujuwada, commented from personal experience “For us it is about offering our expertise for as long as that learner needs to achieve their goals. We love to see young people like Cory, visit our centre completely unaware of their capabilities, and leave with a fresh outlook and a bright career ahead.”
Corey executed his interview with Farsight so professionally that he received immediate feedback that he was “ideal for the position” and was later offered a Business Administration Apprenticeship. Congratulations Cory!
We asked Cory how he felt about his whole experience and what advice would he give to other young people. His answer resonated with many of us here at CT Skills.
“It’s important to challenge yourself. Go to CT Skills and discover what your future looks like. I didn’t expect to attend the Summer Job Shop programme and 4 months later come out with an apprenticeship. My friends and family are thrilled for me which is one of the things I am most proud of. Thank you CT Skills for helping me find my path in life!”
