Learner case study: Bethany Byron

Thursday, September 28 2017

Bethany (21) started her journey with CT Skills in September 2016.

Before she came along for her careers guidance interview, she described herself as a “broken clock”; quiet and unsure of herself and her own ability.

We sat down with Bethany and found out her strengths, weaknesses and interests and then started putting things in place so she could start to progress.

She started off by working on her functional skills on our Traineeship programme to improve her English, maths and employability skills.

She learned about how to write a CV and apply for jobs, communication, and teamwork.

She found herself quickly becoming significantly more confident and became a really strong personality in the classroom.

After completing her functional skills part of the course, Bethany then headed off on her work placement at Parker House nursing home in Woodthorpe, Notts.

She helped out the team there over the Christmas period and says she learned so many new skills whilst there.

As a result of her training, work experience, and vastly improved confidence, Bethany has now gained employment and is grateful for the help our tutors gave her in applying for several jobs.

Although she’s very excited about it, she “doesn’t want to leave” us.

“My confidence has grown massively over the time I’ve been at CT Skills,” she said.

“I am not that quiet, broken clock anymore. I’m a new person.”

Bethany concludes: “This is my journey and it’s been a long but worthwhile wait.”

Are you keen to start work or an apprenticeship but don’t yet have the skills and experience that employers look for? Then our traineeship programme could be the answer.

A traineeship provides an all-round knowledge of the skills needed to work in your chosen industry alongside an understanding of the regulations that govern it.

All learners will gain basic qualifications including maths and English in addition to an industry specific work placement.

Traineeships last for approximately 12 weeks and you’ll be with your tutor or on placement for 2-5 days each week.
