How apprentices are key to business success

Apprenticeships address skills shortages within companies, they upskill the existing workforce, and they reduce staff turnover too.

Research also suggests companies rank hiring the right staff as THE MOST important factor in helping them grow.

Here are some statistics to highlight why apprentices are so valuable, according to research by Morar:

  • 8 in 10 managers see apprentices as important part of growing their business

  • the right people and skills are 10 times more important to expansion than access to finance

  • apprentice employers are five times as likely to rapidly expand their business

Employers also no longer pay National Insurance contributions for apprentices under the age of 25 (eligibility applies) so it’s never been easier and more affordable to hire. 

The government is investing £3 billion to create three million apprenticeships by the year 2020.

A new ‘Apprenticeship Levy’ – funded by big businesses – means the government will contribute at least 90 per cent of the apprenticeship training costs for businesses with an annual paybill of less than £3 million.

What’s even better is that all employers can benefit!

To make use of the new government funding, businesses are required to form a partnership with an authorised training provider.
